Berco Estate is located in Nyeri County, around 150 km north of Kenya’s capital Nairobi. The owner of Berco is Mr Theophilas Mwangi, and the farm has around 29 acres of coffee planted in rich volcanic soil.
Theophilas has outfitted his small factory with a two disc pulper, and several fermentation tanks and washing channels allowing Theophilas to add value to his coffee and look to sell it through the second window avoiding the uncertainty of the auction. This is the first time they have sold coffee in this manor.
After pulping, fermenting for around 24 hours and then washing the coffee, the parchment is dried on raised beds for 10 - 14 days allowing for air circulation around the drying coffee.
